"thanks for the question, short answer it's a little bit of both, but more circumstantial then genuine. thomas and mikita are bonded by the fear of being completely alone, thomas is a redneck who gets bullied for being poor, uneducated and "trashy". he comes from a typical southern redneck trailer trash family. mikita gets bullied too, mainly for being quiet and different. he isnt able to properly stand up for himself because hes been raised to be such a coward, while thomas is the opposite and fights back mainly because he has a massive ego. miki likes thomas's company because it shows hes truly not alone, despite thomas's racist and bigoted ideologies. mikita tolerates it because losing thomas would make him be lonely again, as he's one of his very few friends. its kinda the same with yohan, yohan is the price mikita pays for never being alone, his attention is controlling and invasive but miki confuses it with how friends are supposed to be. erick on the other hand doesn't hate mikita, he just doesn't care about him beyond what he can provide. thomas, yohan and erick are all nefarious in opposite directions, thomas's harm is cruelty aimed at others, yohan erodes mikitas boundaries and erick kinda uses mikita to benefit himself. mikitas fear of abandonment is what holds them all together, otherwise thomas thinks yohan is a creep, yohan doesnt like thomas or erick as he wants to spend time with mikita more often, and erick just sticks around for convenience." - buck, 6 may 2026
